In 1867, before Sherlock Holmes was solving mysteries from his study at 221b Baker Street, Messrs. Davis & Harris were practicing at 9 Ironmonger Lane, London EC2. Thirteen years later, in 1880 Henry Chetham joined the firm and Harris & Chetham was formed.
Henry Chetham was a member of the Chethams family which had set up the famous Chethams School of Music in Manchester.
In 1899, Henry Chetham's son, Henry Arthur Chetham joined and never formally retired. He became a Consultant in 1956 and remained one until his death.
In 1968 Harris Chetham & Co. (affectionately known as " Harass and Cheatem !" ) shortened its name to Chethams.
In 1986 Chethams moved to Baker
Street and was joinedby Duke-Cohan & Co. In 1992, we were joined by Michael H.
Lawson, a licensed insolvency practitioner.
In July 2000 Chethams merged with William Sturges & Co. to form a 16 partner
firm.
